  • Different types of buildings: pyramid-temples, platforms, arcaded halls, and palaces
  • Surviving codices and carved monuments called stelae
  • Lived in Mesoamerica
  • History is divided into three periods: the Pre-Classic, Classic, and Post-Classic
  • 400 BCE to the arrival of the Spanish in 1520 CE
  • Pyramid-temples of Mesoamerica were surmounted by religious temples
  • Believed that sacred buildings should be located at places of power
  • Built using fairly simple and rustic tools made of stone
